Thanks Romy.Sounds like tweeter on top will be best approach in my situation. The room is a good size and shape - 23ft x 15ft with 9ft ceiling . Plenty of room above. As you say the 288 on Azura does go to 12-13k OK with some beaming - almost enough re...

I had exactly the same thought...They're "elliptical JMLC" horns by autotech.pl. There are some threads on diyaudio, including:http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group-buys/166312-waveguides-horns.htmland they have a website showing their myriad options ...

Hello Romy,The tapped horns were easy to construct so I made them while I was working on the midbass channel. I can't really comment on how good tapped horns are because I have never heard other 20-35hz capable systems... it does provide amazing SPL'...
By “midbass horn” I’m talking about a horn with about a flare frequency of about 60 Hz, to use with Fane 8” drivers, to start with.
(Was planning to use this horn from wherever it sounded best, try...
Hi, I have some experience with the 2482. Sure it can reach 300 Hz but only with EQ.
HelloMy experience is that JBL-2482 can be used without EQ.Example on my system where 2482 is used on a home made "Tractrix like" horn ...

I understand your recommendation and agree. I need to have upper bass and MF and than see how to merge fundamental channel in between. So, I better postpone experiments with compression drivers and only compare 12" Supravox in two horns: 42Hz 2m long ...
Here is frequency response without horn:Here is in my 46Hz horn (green is GOTO, blue is Supravox):
Perhaps that GOTO hole centred on about 225Hz is to do with using the incorrect throat in the horn? First thing I wou...
Perhaps that GOTO hole centred on about 225Hz is to do with using the incorrect throat in the horn? First thing I would do is extend the profile of that big horn so that it reaches the correct throat size for the GOTO units. I...

Sorry to keep returning like this. Thought I;d mention a tweet that unexpectedly impressed me favourably -- the Murata ESTD01 (these are their "serious" tweets -- not the "audiophile" tweets). Nice. Directly connected, enters strong at ~14kHz, by its...
Perhaps I misunderstand the unity horn, but I did not mean my suggestion to depend on summation: the idea simply is that one horn flows directly into the other, rather than being discrete; you could have the bottom or top half al...
INTEGRATION that's the clue and that's what I always feel lacks in my room, I mean extreme integration, real integration, the feeling that the recorded bass sound has its own boundaries, not my room's.
I do not comp...

If there is any info in this or another post about why the S2 is so much better than the Altec 288c please direct me. If not what makes the S2 drivers so different than a 288C? (I am talking about 288'cs that the 24 ohm diaphragms have been...

more info about this horn from AA:http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=hug&n=107444&highlight=edgar&r=&session=These horns are an alternative to my 150Hz Tractrix. They are 77Hz, 3/16 mouth front horns with a conical shape. This ...

-Background- Enspired by Jeffery Jacksons system as displayed @ VSAC, I'm building a five-way horn system. Tapped horn for up to ~80Hz; w/ Eminence driver 65Hz Tractrix from ~80Hz to ~400Hz w/ fane 8"; 250Hz LeCleach from ~400Hz to ~2...

Thats the kind of stuff I was hoping for. I appreciate the help with this, there seems to be a scarcity of horn related discussion on the web and its proving hard to learn the ropes. One other unrelated question that could save me a lot of trial and e...

That "curl" beyond 350mm in your diagram is what the LeCleach profile is all about...drop it and it is not a LeCleach anymore (it is more or less Tractrix) and the benefits of that profile to do with the horns lower range are lost. Besides, a 1m dia...

Hi Romy:I would like to wish you and all those who contribute to this forum a very Happy New Year 2011. In addition, I would like, and I would be so reckless as to presume many of your readers/contributors feel the same way, to express a debt of grat...

Hello Romy,Here are some photos of what's been going on here: http://www.webbtjanst.se/lenco/loudspeakers.aspThe room modes I thought I had to battle suddenly disappeared the other day when I decided to try stuffing the boxes a bit. Suddenly everythi...

Romy, may be the alnico jbl 2482 + aluminium diaphragm (plastic surround) would suit for your application here. I tested such driver on 200 hz tractrix horn and worked fine. Went down well under 200 hz and is 2" throat. It is heavy but I would be usi...

Lately I find my self listening in mono because of the area of my apartment and because I can focus better on the reproduction .
So this is not a stereo / mono discussion , just better for my needs .

Actually, you are the only know to me person who understood my “misuse” of word “Tractrix”. The Altec metal horns are a nightmare and that is one of the reasons I can’t even remotely approach any default Altec installation. I addressed it in here: h...

I haven't really thought this through, but if I were doing upper-bass horns again, especially if cut using a numerically controlled router, I might consider making tham oval, which would permit going for a horn with a lower cutoff (larger mouth) whil...

For 140Hz, tractrix, with a 4 inch throat the Fane 8M shall be a good driver. They quite friquntly pop up at German eBay, and UK pro shops have them - at least it is use to be so. If you have one and if you like it then you will fish another one – th...

Lots of bs on their site, I agree, and the spanish product would clearly be very much better. I was wondering, though, what one might use on the inside of a round horn where one cannot easily put in thick materials. There a paint of some sort would s...

AlloI had a theory that the bug screen was helping to damp horn modes/refelctions caused by a mismatch between the S2 internal flare and the horn flare rate. I have 340Hz flare JMLC horns, which may be expected to give less of a mismatch than the sma...
